Patrick William Martin, a proud 10th-generation Floridian, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, FL. Born on January 18, 1964, in New Smyrna Beach, FL—the very city his ancestors founded in 1768—Patrick was deeply rooted in his heritage and community.

The beloved son of William “Bill” Martin and Carole Thornton Martin, Patrick was raised in DeLand, where he attended St. Peter’s Catholic School before graduating from DeLand High School in 1982. His adventurous spirit and keen intellect led him to the Army Russian Language School in Monterey, California, at just 19 years old, setting the stage for a remarkable life filled with service, passion, and accomplishment.

Patrick served as a dedicated officer with the DeLand Police Department, where he earned multiple sharpshooter awards and played a key role in a groundbreaking exchange program between U.S. and Russian law enforcement agencies. His career also saw him as a caddy on the LPGA Tour and later as a sales manager at Merritt Island Jaguar, a role he held until his life was altered by a series of strokes.

Beyond his professional achievements, Patrick lived life to the fullest. He found joy in fishing, golf, and a good wager, always enjoying a spirited discussion about politics or an evening spent gaming. A beloved uncle, he cherished his nieces and nephew, holding a special place in their hearts. He was also known as a favorite cousin, always ready with a story or a laugh.

Patrick was predeceased by his only child, Jennifer Mae Martin, and his niece, Mikayla Robinson. Left to cherish his memory are his father William “Bill” Martin (Wilma); mother Carole Thornton Martin (Bob);  sister, Shannon Sjodin (Ron); stepsisters Lisa Lewis (Dwight), Stacy Turner, and Tracy Robinson; nieces Sara Ann Rose (Jesse), Natalie Sjodin, Blaine Vanzo (Mike), Delanie Turner, Brandi Turner, and Mikenzie Robinson; and his nephew, Carter Moremen. He is also survived by numerous aunts, including his cherished aunt Mary, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends from DeLand

Patrick appreciated a good meal and a glass of red wine, especially during the holidays when the family gathered around food lovingly prepared by Big Mama, Wilma, Carole, and Shannon. His warmth, humor, and presence will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, starting at 3:00 PM at The Martins’ residence, 1351 Greenland Trace, DeLand, FL 32720. Family and friends are invited to bring their favorite memory or a picture of Patrick to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice in his honor.

Patrick’s legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
